Collins Aerospace Systems expects to create 40 new jobs as it expands its landing systems operations in Haltom City.
The 110,000-square-foot facility on North Beach Street will perform wheel and brake maintenance, repair and overhaul operations and landing gear assembly, according to the company. Collins Aerospace will close its existing landing gear facility in Fort Worth in March.
Collins Aerospace, a unit of United Technologies Corp., began moving equipment into the new space at the end of last year and expects it to be fully operational in a few months. The new facility, 30% larger than the one being closed, required an investment of “several million dollars,” the company said.
The new location is in close proximity to Lockheed Martin’s F-35 fighter jet assembly plant in Fort Worth and to commercial airline customers.
Collins Aerospace supplies landing gear to military customers including Lockheed, Northrop Grumman and Boeing. Its wheel and brake business serves airlines such as American, Envoy, Southwest and United.
In addition to the Haltom City investment, Collins Aerospace is putting $145 million into expanding a carbon brake manufacturing facility in Spokane, Washington, and another $80 million into a similar site in Pueblo, Colorado. Those projects will add 100 jobs combined.
