Reluctant jurors are as American as apple pie. Ask any judge and she will tell you that she has never presided at a jury selection without encountering a significant number of jurors who didn’t want to serve. To be fair, there are legitimate reasons for not serving and those reasons are usually honored.
But jurors who are paid their full salary for being jurors should not exhibit such reluctance. Especially those whose job description includes being a juror. Every Senator who voted not to hear evidence has declined to do the job they were hired by the people to do.
When an employee refuses to do an essential function of his or her job description it is appropriate to terminate that employee. Denying the American People a fair trial must result in denying the Senators their positions.
