Unlike homes, jobs must
be walkable from BART

Re: “BART parking needed by those who can’t take bus” (Letter to the editor, Eastbaytimes.com, Dec. 18):

Most BART commuters have a car and can drive the “first mile” (between home and BART). Few have that option for the “last mile” (from BART to their job).

Home can be miles from a BART station, but jobs need to be walkable from BART.

With adequate parking, suburban stations can be much larger and farther apart. Land near BART stations would best be used for job sites and (except in metro areas) parking. As land increases in value, surface parking converts easily to structures, releasing land near the station for more intensive development without neighborhood disruption.
